Most athletes of all levels have limited access to myofascial release techniques due to the cost and convenience of such services.  As such, the introduction of foam rollers, roller massagers, and various similar products have provided portability, low cost, convenience, but effective self-myofascial release (SMR) treatments. Since then, SMR tools have been taking over the fitness world by a storm with their rapid growth in popularity among athletes and athletic specialists. Foam rollers are sold in a variety of materials and evolve into different types, from smooth to bumpy ones, designed to provide different levels of pressure to suit everyone’s SMR treatment needs.

Even before foam rollers, roller massage, and massage stick dominated the muscle recovery and self-myofascial release industry. Tennis balls, lacrosse balls, and golf balls were used to apply direct myofascial release techniques to painful myofascial pain syndromes. It was from these methods that the concept of massage balls was brought to life –from an ordinary ball to massage ball, and now the RecovaBall!!!

On Myofascial Pain Syndrome...

Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a chronic pain disorder, characterized by dull, aching pain with sensitive myofascial trigger points and associated muscle tension and tightness. Myofascial trigger points are discrete, hyperirritable nodules in a taut band, which is a diagnostic feature of MPS. Pressure on these trigger points causes pain in the muscle and sometimes in unrelated body parts, medically termed as referred pain. The cause of which is still uncertain, although theories suggest that it typically occurs after repetitive or stress-related muscle tension. Signs and symptoms of MPS may include:

  • Deep, aching pain in a muscle
  • Pain that persists or worsens
  • A tender knot in a muscle
  • Difficulty sleeping due to pain

Myofascial Pain Treatment

Myofascial release with trigger pointing (myofascial trigger point therapy) is the treatment of choice for MPS. It is a safe and very effective technique that involves the application of gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain, tension, and tightness. Myofascial trigger point therapy is provided by a manual therapist who identifies specific trigger points and applies sustained pressure on them to facilitate myofascial release.

Self-Myofascial Release (SMR) Tools

Although the manual myofascial release is of help with MPS, the pressure applied may be dependent on the strength, technique, and ability of the manual therapist, which may be inconsistent in the long run due to the fatigue factor. Self-myofascial release treatments allow athletes to experience the benefits of indirect myofascial release using their body weight to apply pressure against the ball to the targeted body part.

THE BENEFITS OF SELF-MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

SMR tools provide the following benefits:

  • Muscle relaxation
  • Reduction/elimination of trigger point sensitivity and pain by breaking tender nodules, enhancing muscle elasticity, and increasing blood flow
  • Improved joint range of motion and muscle flexibility by loosening adhesions and scar tissues
  • Improved tissue recovery, decreased muscle soreness from enhanced blood flow

RECOVAPRO  elevated the massage ball to the next level by introducing the RecovaBall

The RecovaBall is ideal for athletes who want to receive SMR experience anywhere and anytime, while also reaping the benefits of vibration therapy so that they’re able to perform to their optimum potential. Integrated with the spherical design for multi-directional rolling, the RecovaBall’s vibration power via the high-density vibrating core penetrates deeply into muscles with pinpoint accuracy at 3-level speed settings, tackling even the deepest muscle knots.

Use it before a workout or training to loosen up and prep your muscles for increased flexibility and boosted performance. Roll it after to relax your muscles, and reduce soreness and stiffness for faster recovery. You’ll both receive an SMR and vibration therapy at the same time in just a session.

You’ll experience SMR better than no other, and longer! RecovaBall's rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery provides you with 150 minutes of battery life per charge, giving you longer use.

RecovaBall is truly an SMR experience like no other!!!
